The McQuaig Mental Agility Test (MMAT Test) is a short test with a 15-minute time limit, consisting of 50 multiple-choice questions in mixed order. The McQuaig test assesses your ability to quickly consider data, perform under pressure, and evaluate problem-solving skills and decision-making competencies.
💡 The McQuaig Mental Agility Test is often accompanied by a personality test: the McQuaig Word Survey.
The main challenge is correctly answering as many questions as possible at a tight time limit of only 18 seconds per question. Your goal here is not to complete all 50 questions, as very few people can do this, but to answer as many questions as possible fast and error-free. Therefore, getting a good score requires much effort and preparation.
If you're not sure about buying one, you can try out our McQuaig Free Practice Simulation, and then decide.
You can find out more by watching our video on the MMAT:
The questions on the McQuaig Mental Agility Test are divided into three different types:
There are 15 math questions in the test, and their main goal is to assess how you process numerical data, like percentage calculations, multiple-step word problems, series completions, arithmetics calculations, etc. During testing, electronic devices are not permitted (such as phones or calculators). However, you can use a blank sheet of paper for calculations.
There are 17 verbal reasoning questions in the test, and their main goal is to assess your verbal comprehension abilities using deductive and inductive methods. To solve the verbal reasoning questions, you’ll need to derive conclusions from statements that appear to be ambiguous. Additionally, you might be asked to identify a syllogism, which is a form of deductive reasoning.
There are 18 vocabulary questions in the test, and their main goal is to assess your language skills and vocabulary. Mostly, MMAT test vocabulary questions will revolve specifically around synonyms and antonyms.
As mentioned before, proper practice and familiarity with the test questions significantly reduce stress and anxiety on test day and raise your chance for success. That's precisely why our experts at JobTestPrep have made a dedicated short free sample test for you.
If Peter rides his bike at a rate of 7.5 miles in 30 minutes, how long will it take Peter to ride 30 miles?
Wrong
Wrong
Wrong
Correct!
The correct answer is 2 hours.
In this question, we are given Peter's speed in miles per 30 minutes. The first step to solving a question of this type is to convert his speed into a single unit of time (miles per minute, miles per hour, miles per day, etc.).
In this case, we should find how fast Peter rides his bike in an hour (60 minutes):
(7.5 miles)/(30 minutes)=(x miles)/(60 minutes).
Notice that 60=30*2, so X= 7.5*2; X=15.
Therefore, Peter rides 15 miles per hour.
To calculate how long it will take Peter to ride 30 miles, we use the following equation:
Time=distance/speed = (30 miles)/(15 mph)=2 hours.
Peter will take 2 hours to ride 30 miles.
What is the missing number in the series?
1/3, 4/3, 9/3, ? , 25/3
Wrong
Correct!
Wrong
Wrong
There are two ways to solve this problem:
(1) The difference between the numerators increases by 2 each step:
1/3 ➡️ +3 4/3 ➡️ +5 9/3 ➡️ +7 16/3 ➡️ +9 25/3
➡️ this indicates the increase in numerator
(2) Another point of view:
1/3, 4/3, 9/3 16/3 25/3
12*1/3 22*1/3 32*1/3 42*1/3 52*1/3
According to this option, the numerators are a squared series with a base that increases by 1 in each step. The denominator remains 2 throughout the series.
Please note that 16/3 = 5.333 and not 5.3.

Your general mental agility score is based on the number of questions you answer correctly, and there is no penalty for a wrong answer. The score is then translated to a percentile indicating how well you performed compared to others.
As you can see from the table above, the average score ranges from 25 to 37, depending on the candidate's experience and skills.
For example, if you answered 45 out of 50 questions correctly, you might land in the top 10th percentile.
A good score on the MMAT reflects high cognitive ability. Here is the results scale:

💡If it's been a while since you finished high school, it's a good bet to say that your various reasoning skills, such as quantitative and verbal skills, are pretty rusty. Practice will help to stimulate cognitive abilities as well as sharpen those skills.
💡Thanks to a detailed report containing plenty of thorough explanations at the end of every practice test.
💡The test allows you to move freely between questions. Therefore, It enables you to apply a time-saving strategy: you can "skip" a difficult question to devote more time to questions on which you have a better chance of answering properly. You can take a guess, and if you have time, you can return to the question later.
The time will be displayed on the screen when taking the online test. Since the test is designed to measure your speed of thought, there is an average of 18 seconds for each question.
💡Via a great selection of Synonyms & Antonyms practice questions.
💡Knowing what is waiting for you at the test will create a sense of capability and help calm the mind.
The MMAT is designed to be used by companies as a screening tool throughout the recruitment process.
You may be required to take the MMAT in any of the following situations:
When applying for a new job, you may be asked to take the MMAT. In some workplaces, the test is always used as part of the recruiting process. In other workplaces, however, the test is only used when all applicants are equally eligible and deciding who to recruit is difficult.
The MMAT may also be used to determine an appropriate standard for a specific position by a current employee who has done an excellent job. Or one who has resigned but is still employed.
The test can shed more light on which type of person is most likely to succeed in that position.
If you work in marketing, for example, your vocabulary score might be more important. Technicians, on the other hand, may require a higher score in the mathematical section.
Lastly, you may take the MMAT if you apply for a position internally or if your employer thinks you are eligible for promotion. The MMAT determines which candidates will be a good fit for a management position.
