New Orleans Police Department Recruitment Test

The New Orleans Police Officer exam measures the skills, knowledge and reasoning abilities required in the performance of police work. Becoming an NOPD Recruit involves:

  • Written multiple-choice test
  • Writing exercise
  • Physical agility
  • Background investigation
  • Interview
  • Medical exam/written psychological test/clinical interview

Each phase must be passed in order to continue on along the hiring process. Therefore, the only way to avoid being stopped in your tracks at the beginning of this application procedure is to pass your written exam. That is the singular focus at JobTestPrep.

NOPD Exam Format

You can expect a strictly timed test in a multiple-choice, Paper & Pencil format. The short timeframe of several sections contributes greatly to the difficulty of the test. Practicing on sample tests can increase your testing speed.

You will encounter straightforward questions that generally involve law enforcement scenarios. There is no penalty for wrong answers. Therefore, answer every question; guess if necessary.

Content of the New Orleans Police Recruitment Exam

The NOPD test is similar in purpose to the Law Enforcement and Protective Services (LEAPS) test. However, LEAPS is administered only for Louisiana state jobs.

A total of 15 assessments comprises the NOPD exam:

  • Recognizing disguised persons or objects – Photos of suspects are presented. Following each photo are alternative drawings or photographs. The task is to select the alternative that is the suspect in disguise.
  • Selective attention – Listen to a simulated radio dispatch while reading a written report. You assume the role of a Police Officer in a specific police car and focus on the information regarding only your police car. Take notes on the dispatch. Use your notes and memory to answer the questions.
  • Exercising judgement – A law enforcement scenario is presented. The task is to identify the immediate police action necessitated by the facts of the scenario.
  • Written communication – A photo or drawing is presented. Select the alternative that most clearly and accurately describes the picture.
  • Oral comprehension- Listen to a recording of a brief, police-related lecture. Take notes. Use your notes to answer the questions that follow the recording.
  • Associated memory – A Wanted bulletin is presented with descriptive information including the face of the suspect. Take notes. Use your memory and notes to identify the suspect. The questions might involve the suspect’s face, name, crime or other bulletin information.
  • Verbal memory – Listen to a recording containing the description of an incident. No notes are allowed. The task is to answer questions pertaining to the incident, using only your memory.
  • Deductive reasoning – Questions dealing with this factor concern the ability to apply a general rule, regulation, procedure or law to particular facts.
  • Inductive reasoning – Questions require the identification of similarities and differences in groups of objects. For example, you may be asked to determine the shape that does not belong in a group of four different shapes.
  • Perceptual accuracy – Some items require the identification of a number/letter combination that exactly matches the original. Other questions involve the presentation of a name and address, to be compared to the same or slightly altered name and address; select the alternative that contains the correct number of errors in the second set.
  • Form completion – A form is presented. Pursuant to the information given, identify the incorrect data in the form.
  • Grammar, spelling, punctuation and sentence structure – Read each alternative sentence. Identify the sentence that is most grammatically correct.
  • Observation skills – Photos are presented. Following each photo are questions based on the details contained in the picture.
  • Social judgment/interpersonal skills – Sequencing is a substantial element in regard to this factor. For example, you may be asked to sequence a group of pictures in accordance with a logical timeline.
