North Dakota Police Exams

Each department may choose which written exam and score they require you to take in order for you to be selected in the hiring process. Below is a list of police department.


Bismarck

To become a police officer in Bismarck you need to take a written test by IPMA-HR. You must achieve a minimum score of 75% or better on the Police Officer Entrance Level Exam to have your application forwarded to the department for the next phase in the process, which is the oral interview.


Dickinson & Fargo

The Dickinson and Fargo police departments require you to take Ergometrics FrontLine Written exam. The exam consists of 2 tests: a Video Based Human Relations and Judgment Test and the Writing Test. You will have 3 hours and 30 minutes to complete the exam. For the Video Based Human Relations and Judgment Test you will watch a part of a video and then have to choose the best action to take in a multiple-choice format. The Writing Test is broken down into two parts. The first part is writing a report and the second part is a multiple-choice writing and reading test.

To pass the entrance exam in Fargo you must receive 75% on the video test, 80% on the reading test and 80% on the observational/report writing test.


Grand Forks

To become a police officer in Grand Forks, ND, you must take a written test by IPMA-HR. The IPMA-HR exam is the PO-EL 100 (TIP) Series Entry Level Police Exam. The PO-EL 100 series was designed to assess whether or not you have basic abilities necessary to learn and perform to be a successful police officer. You will be given 25 minutes to study the TIP (test information packet). Afterwards, the TIP will be collected and you will have 1 hour and 45 minutes to complete the test booklet, which contains 100 multiple-choice questions.


Lincoln

To be a part of the Lincoln police department you must pass the National Police Officer Selection Test (NPOST) by Stanard. The test measures basic skills necessary to perform successfully as a police officer. The exam is divided into four separately timed sections which measure mathematics, reading comprehension, grammar, and incident report writing skills.
