Florida civil service exams are only administered for certain civil service positions. A vacancy requiring you to take and pass a Florida state exam will clearly be state on the job announcement. The job announcement will state which test is required and the subjects covered on the exam. However, civil service positions that consistently require Florida state testing are those in law enforcement and fire safety.
Law Enforcement: Law enforcement exams are required by those who are interested in entering various fields of protective services. Different positions may include Florida Police Exams or Correctional Officer Exams, each containing their own strict requirements, qualifications, and tested skills and abilities.
Fire Safety: Civil service exams in Florida are administered to prospective firefighters by local and state departments. Learn more about how to prepare and practice for Florida Firefighter Exams.
Local Florida Exams: Local municipalities, such as Miami and Jacksonville, may also administer civil service exams for positions that require such testing. The tests are prepared and scheduled by the state government, so exams for the same positions are generally the same no matter where you are located.
The Florida Civil Service system allows candidates to apply online through the state website (see useful links) for a variety of government jobs. It is important to thoroughly read the job announcement for the vacancy in order to determine the deadline for submitting applications, the duties of the position, minimum requirements and qualifications, and method of testing.
To pass the Florida state exams, generally a minimum score of 70 is required, and those candidates who succeed, are generally added to the eligibility list. The higher the score, the higher a candidate’s ranking will be on the list, and thus will have a greater chance of being contacted for employment with the hiring agency.
